    Who is John Gruber?

It's that most basic of questions that Fireball sets out to answer, not least because most of those who see the film enter with the very same question. "Gruber is part raconteur, part storyteller," says director Nigel St. John-Wilcox. "He's an inscrutable man of mystery...and yet somehow there's a little bit of him in all of us. Plus, he has fantastic hair—you just want to run your fingers through it."

An intriguing mix of fact and fiction about the proprietor of the premiere Internet destination Daring Fireball, the film attempts to figure out precisely what drives this unique individual, journeying to the places that he frequents, talking to the people who both love—and, yes, hate—him.

"Some might call it 'pretentious twaddle'," says St.John-Wilcox, "...and I think that's really our target demographic—people who know the word 'twaddle.'"

Fireball will make its debut later this year at a well-known film festival, somewhere in the southwest United States. The producers hope to take it nationwide later this summer, contingent on getting a distribution deal.

    Acknowledgements

The director would like to thank all the people who made Fireball a possibility, including the producer, cast, and crew, in particular Scott Simpson, Merlin Mann, John Moltz, and Adam Lisagor. And the most special thanks, of course, go to John Gruber himself, without whose patience, forebearance, and reluctance to litigate this film would never have happened.
